Man charged with indecency after incident near Sooke school

A 34-year-old Victoria man has been arrested and charged after an alleged indecent act near Edward Milne Community School.

Sooke RCMP were called just after noon on Wednesday after reports that a man was committing an indecent act in a truck parked near the high school.

“Prior to police arrival, the man had fled. However, witness reports were instrumental in allowing officers to identify the man,” said Sgt. Kevin Shaw.

He said the truck and driver were located that evening.

Andrew Durant appeared in court Thursday and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Oct. 21.

The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved one count of committing an indecent act in a public place.

“We have been in close contact with the school administration and provided them with relevant information to help ensure student safety,” Shaw said.
