No charges approved against driving instructor

No charges have been approved against Victoria driving school owner Steve Wallace.

The driving instructor was to appear in provincial court Thursday on three counts of alleged sexual assault, but charges were never sworn.

“After a full review of the investigative material provided by the investigative agency, Crown counsel concluded that the charge assessment standard had not been met for any criminal offence and no charges will proceed,” the B.C. Prosecution Service said in a statement. “In this case, the prosecutor concluded the test was not met and charges have not been approved.

The Crown must consider whether there is a substantial likelihood of conviction, and, if so, whether prosecution is in the public interest.

The Insurance Corporation of B.C.’s investigation into the Wallace Driving School remains underway, the Crown corporation said Thursday.

ICBC’s actions in this matter are not related to, or affected by, any actions undertaken by police or the Crown, it said.

ICBC served notice of its intention to cancel Wallace’s driver training instructor’s licence on Oct. 4. “Out of respect for this process, we are unable to provide further comment at this time,” ICBC said.
