Fifth patient tests positive for COVID-19 in Tofino General Hospital outbreak

Island Health has identified one additional patient in a COVID-19 outbreak declared at Tofino General Hospital this week.

Five patients have tested positive related to this outbreak. The latest case is not the result of new or ongoing transmission at the hospital, Island Health said.

The outbreak is limited to the inpatient unit. The emergency department and the rest of the hospital remain open. There has been no impact on other areas of the hospital, Island Health said.

Island Health said it has enhanced infection-control precautions, including cleaning and contact tracing of all patients, staff, and medical staff.

“We would like to reassure the community that TGH remains open and ready to provide safe care,” Island Health said in a news release. “If you require emergency care, please do not hesitate to visit the emergency room immediately.”
