VOLUNTEERING: Saanich Volunteer Services, Silver Threads

Lifetime Networks is looking for a volunteer who is interested in building a friendship with a middle-aged man who has a brain injury. An older volunteer able to commit to a long-term position and who understands that memory loss can occur with brain injury is an ideal candidate. This man needs physical support and uses a wheelchair, so we hope to find someone who is able to travel and visit at his house. His interests and possible activities would include: watching sports together, playing video games together or going for walks around his neighbourhood. Saanich Volunteer Services is seeking volunteers interested in supporting residents of Saanich by driving them to medical appointments. Drivers must have a valid driver’s licence, current vehicle insurance and a safe driving record. This is our most flexible volunteer position. Specific day and time availability is up to each driver — we do ask for one drive per week and Drivers can also take some down time if they wish. SVSS Volunteers must be fully vaccinated in accordance with our contract with Island Health and all COVID protocols are followed. The Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA) is seeking volunteers to help make Lights of Wonder a success. We need assistance running this big, free, accessible, and all-ages community-focused light display in Centennial Square. The event will take place 4 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday to Sunday from Dec. 16 to 31. Volunteer duties include greeting visitors, helping with setup and closedown, tracking number of visitors, etc. Shifts will be four hours maximum and take place outdoors.
