Driver nabbed doing 163 km/h in Mustang on Sooke Road

A driver with prior convictions for impaired and dangerous driving is facing new charges after he was caught doing 163 kilometres per hour on Sooke Road.

B.C. Highway Patrol said the man in his 40s driving a newermodel Mustang was going more than double the speed limit and overtaking multiple vehicles on the double-lane section of Highway 14 near the Sooke Hills Wilderness Park turnoff in Metchosin on April 27.

The man was arrested for dangerous driving and his vehicle was impounded.

“The manner in which this vehicle was being driven was inherently dangerous,” said Staff Sgt. Adam Tallboy of the B.C. Highway Patrol.

“There are homes and bus stops within close proximity to the highway, as well as fellow motorists who are trying to get to their destinations safely.”

Tallboy said May is High Risk Driving Awareness month in British Columbia and police agencies across the province are stepping up enforcement of high-risk driving behaviours.
